The Airline Drive-In,
Ponca City Oklahoma.
Last week one of my best friends, Keith, heard on the radio station 88.5 The House that The Airline Drive-In in Ponca City Oklahoma was going to turning the lights off for the final time.
When people ask where I am from I usually say I am originally from Cordell, Oklahoma but I actually grew up in Tonkawa Oklahoma first and moved to Cordell in the middle of 3rd grade. All my memories from growing up in Tonakwa are good memories and I am thankful to have so many memories from my original home town.
I remember as a kid that my mom and dad took my brother and I to a drive-in movie at this exact location in Ponca City. I remember this like it was yesterday. If you know me at all you know hearing the words final showing, where I grew up, I have memories there, shutting down, I am taking a road trip for the final showing. The movie was, Gods Not Dead, if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.
88.5, The House sponsored this event. It was such a great experience. It was such a great time in my life and a perfect memory with my family and I was thankful to be able to go back and get to experience the drive-in again, who knew this many years later there would even still be a drive-in to go to. I sat there watching kids sitting on top of cars, families sitting on the backs of trucks & thought so many families are creating memories that someday their kids will say that they were able to make memories at the drive-in, just like me.
Thank you to my friend Keith for being up for the adventure. I wish my entire family could have gone as well! What a great day!
